Elderly Care Jobs on the Rise: The Future of American Careers
More and more technologies allow Americans today to engage into various kinds of new jobs – from artificial intelligence, self-driving cars, and a lot more. Likewise, as the population becomes older, the need for more elderly care providers is also on the rise.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the “personal-care aid” job will grow faster than others, expecting an estimate of about 750,000 more jobs from 2016 to 2026. Fourth on their list is “home-health aide”, with an additional 425,000 jobs. The said jobs entail caring for the elderly, especially those with disability and diseases and are staying at home.
Assuming that the projection of the Bureau is right, the number of jobs will increase from 2.3 million in 2016 to 3.4 million by 2026.
Aside from home-aide and personal care-aide jobs growing in absolute numbers, the said jobs are also part of those with the fastest growth rates (37% and 47%, respectively). Such projections have been consistent as well through history. From less than 700,000 in 2002, the figures rose to more than 1.4 million in 2017.
Having learned this trend, it surely is helpful knowing that home care services are indeed in-demand these days and in the future. Those who are looking into careers in the said fields can definitely make a difference to the elderly’s lives as well as make a living!
