There are tons of ways to prevent hospitalization in seniors. If you’re a care provider (offering home care services and others) and would like to help your patients stay healthy, here are some tips:
Staying healthy entails keeping one’s body active. According to the National Institute on Aging, seniors should engage in regular physical activities to take advantage of increased energy, enhanced balance, and depression prevention.
2. Wash hands
Just like other any other age group, elders can avoid getting sick by avoiding germs. One of the ways to do so is by washing one’s hands before and after eating, and every so often (especially after holding objects in public). Doing so would aid in preventing the occurrence of various diseases and infections.
3. Get a flu shot
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there are around 80 to 90 percent of deaths related to flu in those ages 65 and above. Thus, one of the most highly recommended tips to prevent hospitalization in seniors is to get a flu shot. With weaker immune systems, the elderly really need a boost.
