Learn About Our Caregivers
I was amazed at how expert the care giver was at providing care. She kept my Dad clean, she changed his bed linens with him in the bed and she gave him drinks of water to keep him hydrated. She sincerely cared. Our situation seemed to change every couple of days so Greg arranged the caregivers schedules to meet our needs. We were never without the help we needed.” – Reginald Bowman, Sunnyvale
Homecare California provides three levels of caregivers that have increasing levels of experience and training to work with client’s increasing needs over time.
- Level One – provide companionship, transportation, recreation, meal preparation, light housekeeping, etc..
- Level Two – Level Two care plus the added hands-on skills for personal care – bathing, showering, grooming, dressing, feeding, etc..
- Level Three – are generally Certified Nurse Assistants, Licensed Vocational Nurses or very experience caregivers that handle more complex cases that include incontinence care, ambulation, transfer assistance, as well as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, stroke and other physically and mentally debilitating conditions.
Background Screening
New caregiver candidates are rigorously interviewed in person to determine their eligibility as a Homecare California caregiver. If the caregiver’s compassion, background, knowledge, training and skills meet our requirements, we proceed with a thorough reference and background check. Many home care organizations do only cursory background screenings when recruiting caregivers. Some perform none at all. Currently, there is no California law requiring them to doing so, but we feel strongly that this is a necessary step in ensuring the best quality caregivers available. We perform a comprehensive five-point background check to review a prospective caregiver’s background including:
- Social Security Number Trace used to match a prospective caregiver’s name with their Social Security Number and determine counties in which the prospective caregiver has resided.
- County Criminal Search examines criminal records at the county level to uncover any criminal prosecutions within the last seven years.
- National Criminal Database Search used as a supplemental search to help ensure there are no criminal histories outside the locations uncovered by the County Criminal Search. This search covers most of the United States.
- Motor Vehicle Report performed to uncover motor vehicle related violations such as Driving Under the Influence (DUI), suspended license, accidents, as well as other violations.
- Sex Offender Search examines the past of every prospective candidate for any sex-related crimes. While most of these crimes are typically uncovered in the County Criminal Search, we go a step further and search the United States Department of Justice Sex Offender Website, California Department of Justice Megan’s Law Website as well as other historical data.
Only after all of these steps are performed do we extend an offer to become a Homecare California caregiver.
Employed by Homecare California
As a protection for our clients, all of our caregivers are employees of Homecare California and are not merely referred to you through an agency-style relationship. Why?
- First this provides the quality control over the services we provide.
- We adhere to the State of California’s Industrial Welfare Commission’s Order No. 15-2001 which strictly regulates the wages, hours and working conditions of household occupations.
- We provide all California Worker’s Compensation insurance to cover work related injuries for caregivers in your home.
- We provide unemployment insurance for our caregivers to protect our clients from being charged with back fees in the event a caregiver were to file for unemployment.
- We pay the employer portion of all federal, state and local taxes as well as withhold and file all of the relevant paperwork and monies to cover the employee’s compensation taxes.
The State of California endeavors to ensure the protection of all workers within the state through these requirements and regulations. We take great pains to protect our clients from any violations of these regulations as a normal part of our premier care services.
Bonding & Insurance
As an extra measure of protection, all of our caregivers are insured for coverage related to any liability or theft that may arise related to care giving.
Tuberculosis Testing
Although not required by law, upon hiring and on a regular basis thereafter, Homecare California confirms that our caregivers have passed their tuberculosis screening tests performed by a physician or other qualified medical provider.
